Roach Treatments
The most common roaches in Hawaii are the American roach (dark brown 1 to 2 inches long) and the German roach (light brown ½” to ¾” long). Their reproduction cycle lasts two to three months and they usually breed in hidden away places near kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry areas where they can get food and water. They are nocturnal, so if you see them during the day, that is usually an indication of a large infestation. The smaller German and Brown Banded roaches live indoors and are often brought home from the grocery store or post office and need an indoor treatment. Larger American and Australian Roaches generally live in your yard, yet can take up residence in your home, so both indoor and outdoor treatment could be necessary.
Quarterly treatments are recommended (never required!) for roaches. The first time we treat for roaches tells us what level of infestation exists. We guarantee our indoor roach treatment for three months after the second treatment.
Since roaches usually travel close to walls, the traditional treatment for roaches is to spray liquid pesticides along the bottom of kitchen cabinets and along baseboards throughout the home. These products, whether over the counter or professionally applied, are designed to give a powerful toxic burst that lasts from a few hours to a couple of days. When their effects wear off, there is no protection against new roaches. Such short-term applications must be repeated often to continuously kill the traveling roaches. Also, this type of treatment does not address the breeding areas or hidden away areas where roaches forage and breed.
The Eco Smart solution to this problem is to use products that are long-lasting, effective, and environmentally friendly for both the home and the yard. These products last about three months, will not harm humans or pets, and require no evacuation during treatment.
Below are detailed descriptions of the roach treatments offered by Eco Smart for your home and yard.
Home Powder Roach Treatment
Our service technician applies the patented Eco Smart powder under all cabinets (if possible) in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry areas, and under and behind all major appliances such as the refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, washer and dryer. The Eco Smart powder is electrostatically charged so, as the roach walks on the powder, the powder sticks to its exoskeleton. The powder dehydrates the roach, and as the roach attempts to clean the powder off its body, it ingests some of the powder which assists in killing it. The powder stays active for up to three months providing a long lasting solution to your roach problem. Depending on the size of your home, the application usually takes thirty minutes to an hour to complete.
Home Spray Roach Treatment
The interior spray treatment for roaches consists of spraying a non-staining, non-odorous water based spray mixture under all cabinets (if possible) in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry areas, under and behind all major appliances such as the refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, washer and dryer, near trash bins, plumbing cracks and crevices, and along baseboards as well as doorway entrances and exits. The spray treatments are cheaper than the powder treatments but, since the residual effect of the spray is only approximately three to four days, the spray treatments are not a long term solution and require a number of follow up visits. The spray treatments are usually reserved for real-estate transactions or to satisfy a lease agreement when moving out of a rental property.
Yard Roach Treatment
For yard treatments, our service technicians use two products: one is a granular product that looks like and has the same consistency as beach sand, and the other is a liquid spray. The granule is impregnated with a long lasting time release formula that is moisture activated. This product is applied to the perimeter of the home creating a barrier or buffer zone around the home. Once the service technician has applied the granular product he then sprays the yard with the liquid mixture that will activate the granules and will also kill any adult roaches. This granular product stays active for about three months and provides long lasting protection.
